![]() War is perhaps the most desperate environment for art and the artist. There were many heroic and legendary events during the independence war of Anatolia which deeply affected the Turkish artists and painters of the era who expressed witnessed occasions in their paintings. ![]() It was troublesome war of existence for all the kids, women, men and olders. Even though the World War I ended in 1918, it actually lasted until the proclamation of The Repuclic of Turkey on October 29 in 1923. In this context, even a “War Paintings Exhibition” is held with the aim of showing the heroism of the Turkish people and the army to their European allies and intimidating their enemies. Both artistic anxiety and works produced according to the political agenda of the country are exhibited in exhibition halls at the same time. Galatasaray Exhibitions, which started to open since 1916 with the support of the Caliph Abdülmecit, is a valuable artistic product of this war environment. Even though the war had many negative effects on its territory, it also caused our country to sprout in a new artistic formation. World War I, which started in 1914, not only had an effect on the territorial integrity of the Ottoman Empire but also had deep influences on Turkish people both sociologically and economically.
